A bowl of Caprese Pasta Salad

Caprese Salad is nice 🙂, but Caprese Pasta Salad is really great. It takes all the essential components of the simple salad and enhances them ever so slightly just by tossing them together with pasta. This elevates the light and fresh appetizer, transforming it into a light and fresh salad that serves as a satisfying meal. Enjoy this quick and easy pasta salad on its own or as part of a larger spread. It’s an impressive and universally appealing part of any brunch or dinner party menu.

This pasta salad contains all the core elements of a traditional caprese salad: fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil. Where we deviate from the classic is by adding pasta as the base, dressing it in a light, zingy vinaigrette, and drizzling with a balsamic vinegar glaze. The vinaigrette and balsamic glaze make this humble salad truly special and should be considered essential, in my humble opinion. The herby acidity greatly enhances and compliments the fresh, neutral mozzarella and slightly sweet tomatoes and basil. Next time you’re short on time or ideas, toss together a big bowl of Caprese Pasta Salad for an easy, crowd-pleasing meal to feature at any dinner scene any time of year.

INGREDIENTS

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Strain, rinse with cool water. Set aside in a bowl and toss with olive oil.
  2. To make the dressing, add the balsamic vinegar, red wine vinegar, olive oil, dried basil, garlic powder, salt and pepper to a small bowl and mix until well-combined.
  3. To the cooked pasta, add the mozzarella balls, tomatoes, and almost all of the fresh basil, reserving a little to garnish on top.
  4. Pour the dressing over the pasta and stir until all the pasta is coated and toppings are evenly distributed.
  5. Garnish with the remaining fresh basil and drizzle some balsamic vinegar glaze over the top.
  6. Serve at room temperature or chilled.
