Looking for a healthy treat that actually satisfies your chocolate cravings? These Chocolate Date Balls are exactly what you need. Naturally sweet from plump, Medjool dates, packed with crunchy nuts, and rich with cocoa — they taste like a fancy truffle but are secretly good for you.

I make a batch of these every week because they’re the perfect grab-and-go snack, afternoon pick-me-up, or dessert to pair with tea or coffee. No refined sugar, no baking, and they come together in the food processor (or by hand!) in minutes. The combination of almonds and hazelnuts gives them a deep, nutty flavor that pairs beautifully with the gooey, chocolatey dates. They’re packed with protein and healthy fats to keep you and your sweet tooth full and happy.

Feel free to play around with nuts/nut butters by adding in your favorites or even using seeds like sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. I normally use a combination of almonds and pecans, since that’s what I usually have on hand, but almost anything will work nicely with the dates and cocoa. Optional but recommended for extra chocolate intensity and even more delightful crunch, add a handful of mini chocolate chips before rolling out the balls.

These little energy balls have become my go-to when I want something sweet without derailing my day. That being said, they disappear fast. These Healthy Chocolate Date Balls prove that nutritious snacks can be seriously delicious. They’re chewy, crunchy, chocolatey, and completely guilt-free.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup medjool dates or date paste
  • ½ cup almonds
  • ½ cups pecans, hazelnuts, or other preferred nut
  • ¼ cup almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa/cacao powder
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Add the nuts to a food processor and pulse until they are chopped, not too finely. Alternatively, you can chop by hand.
  2. Add in the dates/date paste, almond butter, cocoa powder, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and salt and mix until combined into a smooth paste.
  3. Fold in the chocolate chips using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon.
  4. Scoop out about a tablespoon of the paste at a time and roll into balls.
  5. Arrange the balls onto a plate or tray and place in the freezer for at least 1 hour.
  6. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer.
