Homemade Carne Asada cut into strips plated with Spanish rice and onions.

If you’re looking for a quick weeknight meal, make a simple Homemade Carne Asada that will rival any Mexican restaurant. Featuring a versatile chipotle marinade, this carne asada is a surefire way to elevate your meat game and become your go-to for an easy way to enjoy steak anytime.

The key to a great carne asada is to focus on rich, bold flavors without the fuss. The hearty beef is expertly complemented by a smoky kick from chipotle peppers with a marinade that is simple yet packs a punch of zesty, spicy flavor. Along with the chiles, onions, garlic, cumin, and cilantro build up that authentic Mexican flavor profile. Feel free to play around with the levels of acid and spice to suit your liking. I would normally use freshly squeezed orange 🍊 juice, but we’re currently in between the two fruiting seasons of our orange trees, so white vinegar had to do the honorable stand-in. The steak grills up really nicely either on an outdoor grill or stovetop skillet, depending on your preference and logistics. Anyway you cook it, this steak is perfect for tacos, burritos, or just enjoying straight off the grill perhaps with a side of Spanish rice.

This Homemade Carne Asada is a classic for a reason and sure to be a hit. It certainly surpasses a certain fast-casual Mexican joint, which we shall not name 😏. Plus, it’s a perfect way to share juicy 🧃 steak and bring everyone to the table to enjoy a high-quality, home-cooked meal. Whether you're having taco night, hosting a backyard barbeque, or just craving some delicious beef, this recipe will win it all.
