This one requires some explaining. First of all: what is sludge? While it doesn’t immediately equate to food or sound remotely appetizing, sludge is delicious. This is the good kind of sludge. It's essentially a glorified nut butter that's modified with added healthy fats and carbs so that it's loaded with calories 🎛️.  It was born out of my brother’s fanatic love for ridiculously loaded peanut butter sandwiches (imagine 2 inches thick of lucious pb) and got its name as an endearing joke since it's quite thick and goopy– sludgelike.

While it started with peanut butter, there have been many renditions featuring all kinds of different nut/seed butters, including almond, cashew, macadamia, hazelnut, walnut, pumpkin seed, and even brazil nut. It was also originally sweetened with honey–still a reliable standby–but juicy medjool dates have lately been the preferred natural sweetener, as they add a lovely creaminess and richness in addition to their divine caramel-like flavor. Lastly, coconut oil adds wonderful smoothness and depth. Blend them all together, and you get a hearty spread to slather on your favorite soft sandwich bread; this is the happiest sandwich you will ever eat. 🥪😊 

Macadamia nut and date is a particularly beautiful combination and personal favorite. Last year, we scored what felt like a steal when Costco was selling huge 32 ounce jars of pure macadamia nut butter for less than $10 (❗️). It was so good, my husband went back and bought 2 cases and we are sadly now on our last jar (update: it finished 😔). Even more sadly, the company who made it, Milkadamia, apparently doesn’t acknowledge ever having made such a wonderful product (eBay has zilch). They only sell nut milks 🥛, but as you can see in the photos, there’s proof it was a real thing, and it was a real treat 🍭.

Combined with the power of intermittent fasting, it can create the perfect combination to sustain fat shredding.
